The Making of Raveled

Raveled is the latest production from Aberle Films. The two feature films were based on short, proof-of-concept episodes produced and directed by Doug Aberle in 2005 for the Comcast show "Super Atomic TV".

Raveled started in the Spring of 2005 as a way to produce comic material for Super Atomic TV, a show that aired old Sci-Fi films with written commentary. Kurt Loyd, creator of Super Atomic TV, approached Doug about adding animated sequences but, as there was no real budget, that proved to be unrealistic. However, Doug showed Kurt a short demo he produced with Rich Rubin and Alex Aberle, starring a sock puppet weatherman named Frank who had the thankless job of predicting Earth's weather during a supernova. This demo was a big hit with Kurt, and from that the overall concept for Raveled was developed.

At that point, sets were designed and built, puppets developed, and local talent acquired to help produce these complex, yet fascinating feature films.

Major personnel includes:

Doug Aberle
Creator of Raveled, head writer, producer and director. Without Doug, there would be no Raveled. He is one of the three main puppeteers, and provides voices for the President, the Thoolian Assistant, Earl the White House Gate Guard, the mysterious Thoolian "Voice", Sylvia the Computer, and the Narrator. (Plus a few odd voices here and there.)

Doug is co-owner of Aberle Films, and specializes in character-based productions with a comic twist. Doug's background is in animation, having spent 18 years as an animator and director at Will Vinton Studios in Portland, Oregon. His short animated films have won awards all around the world. See the Aberle Films website for more info.

Rich Rubin
Rich not only brings the personality of Streek to life, but he puppeteers and voices other Raveled characters, such as Vice President Jimmy Wonderson, Carl the nervous Thoolian, and many more. Rich also writes and performs all the music for Raveled, a feat he has done for numerous Aberle Films productions. He and Doug are currently developing a travel show based on Rich's 23 years in the travel industry.
Alex Aberle
Alex personifies Ditch Salvage and Rex Kayoss as both voice and puppeteer. Additionally, he brings life to the Thoolian Commander and one of the White House Secret Service Agents. He also provides support in many other aspects of the production, from editor to script consultant to computer guru to camera man to sound technician. Alex also creates and develops the superb visual effects for the series, with some episodes requiring over fifty separate effects.
Katherine Aberle
Along with being the co-owner of Aberle Films, Kathy masterfully creates all the puppets required for each episode, fitting them carefully to the puppeteers’ hands. She also lends her voice to grumpy Mrs. Feebledower, the President’s former secretary who, we eventually discover, is a spy for a secret, evil organization. In addition, Kathy runs the front office and lends her skills as a writer to reviews of each of the scripts.
Greg Higgins
Greg serves as Production Manager on Raveled, and also voices the Thoolian Self-Destruct mechanism and one of the White House Secret Service Agents. His real genius, however, is in the construction of the written Thoolian language he devised; a series of pictograms that are used throughout the ship. And it all makes perfect sense... At least to Greg.
Additional Crew:

Sean_League
The voice of Harold. Sean says, in his own words, “They let me come over in the middle of the night, eat their food, watch their TV, play with their dogs. And for that they make me record my voice for hours at a time until I can barely speak. But I am paid handsomely in egg salad.” Sean is an Astronomer/astrophysicist.
Kerry Scribner
An accomplished artist in her own right, Kerry brings just the right personality to the voice of Vera Lyntz, Ditch’s long-suffering military assistant. Kerry also lends a hand in design and set construction.
Steve Aberle
Doug’s older brother helped with the initial set construction, building the multiple units that formed the core of the Thoolian ship. As additional set pieces are required, Steve pitches in and builds whatever is needed.
Hilary Aberle
The voice of Miss Eclipse also serves as one of the main script consultants, and helped write parts of the first episode. She also helps refine future story lines currently under development.
Adam Aberle
Adam provides the voice of Norman Bitesit, the U.S. fighter pilot who seems to survive the most impossible battles. He also helps with set construction, having developed the look of the computer room's walls.
